The proposed experience should reflect family and individual primary care from childhood through older adulthood. That does not mean every student needs the same population split or that every all-ages clinic fits. The patient mix and supervised activities must support the approved objectives.

The search can span family medicine, community clinics, pediatric offices, internal medicine, adult and geriatric primary care, reproductive health, and other settings that deliver genuine primary care. We screen what happens there, while University of California-San Francisco decides whether the actual preceptor and site satisfy the course.

Nationally, NTF recommends a 750-hour direct patient care minimum for an NP population focus, and the FNP certification bodies publish a 500-hour faculty-supervised eligibility floor.
