FNP preceptor placement, state by state

Your FNP clinical hours happen where you live, under your state's rules for nurse practitioners and inside your state's own primary care landscape. Pick your state to explore possible settings, then confirm every practicum objective, preceptor, and site with your program.

Questions

Good to know

Do you place FNP students in every state?

Yes. We source preceptors and clinical sites in all 50 states, for students at any university. Each state page covers its practice-authority rules, its board of nursing, and the settings that actually host FNP rotations there.

Does my state's practice authority change what I need in a preceptor?

It changes the supervision arrangement more than the preceptor's qualifications. In full-practice states an experienced NP can precept independently; in reduced and restricted states a collaborating or supervising physician is often part of the arrangement. Either way your preceptor must be licensed in your state and practicing in the population you are logging.

Does practicum availability vary by state?

Yes. Availability varies by location, course objective, setting, clinician capacity, and program approval. Review the [pediatric rotation](/pediatric-rotation/) and [women's health rotation](/womens-health-rotation/) guides as planning context, then confirm the current course requirements with your program.
